![]() A lot of these problems are things that require a user to think abstractly, which isn't easy when they get frustrated at what they only see as a "I see two of these, I just want one!" problem. ![]() Like I said, these are not problems that can't be overcome, but to do so in a user-friendly, understandable way is not an easy challenge. These are all very real issues that I've run into when helping people try to eliminate duplicates. Automatic algorithms will be limited in figuring out which shot is "best". What about situations that are not technically duplicates, but people think really are: Multiple photos of the same image were taken (such as of a group to ensure no one had their eyes closed).Do you still want to put the other original in that album? Maybe that album was made specifically for copies of a certain downsized resolution, and it shouldn't be? In terms of albums, one "original" might be in Album A, the other "duplicate original" is in Album B if you remove one "Original", it will disappear from the corresponding album. What if duplicates have different metadata? Do you merge? Not merge? What about metadata where there can be only one, such as date? How will it know which date is real? Similar question for photos that have place information. When there are photos that were edited with an external editor, and brought back, do you keep both? Also, some algorithms may not even see these as duplicates if they were saved in different formats. There may be similar photos, but in different resolutions or compressions.I'm not saying these things can't be overcome, but they shouldn't be overlooked. Unfortunately, there's always some complexity in removing duplicate photos. This subreddit is not endorsed or sponsored by Apple Inc. If you'd like to view their content together, click here.
